I started my journey to a better life on the 8^th May 2007 when I received a phone call from my mother saying that my father had fainted whilst having his tea. You can imagine my sorrow 10 minutes later when I arrived at my parents and found my father dead on the floor. This was not totally unexpected as he had already suffered 2 minor heart attacks in the past.

 

I knew very little about my family history on my father’s side but I was aware that my father’s older brothers, Sonny and Jack had both died in similar circumstances. Then approximately a year ago my last remaining uncle was taken into hospital following two heart bypasses and renal failure. Sadly my uncle Gordon never made it out of hospital and died in March 2009.

 

Following the funeral and a period of reflection, I knew it was time to act. With the encouragement of my family I went to meet an inspiring lady called Lisa and on the 8^th September 2009 I enrolled at slimming world Gosport, Hampshire.

 

 

Since that time I have lost over 6 stone and increased my activity significantly in the form of cycling to & from work whenever possible and some gym workouts. However as part of this lifestyle change I now need your help. To continue my journey and to further improve my fitness to a realistic level I have now taken on a further challenge. 

 

On the 31^st march 2010 I signed up for The Big Heart Bicycle Ride in Africa covering 400Km in five days through Tanzania.

 

As part of this challenge I have committed to make all possible efforts to raise a minimum of £3200 in sponsorship. I am using all my corporate contacts within my professional sphere and hoping to convince friends, family and people reading this to raise money for the charities concerned, these being the British Heart Foundation, CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), Tiny Tickers charity and HEART UK.

 

The intension is for me to give back something to the people that have, in the past, helped my extended family and to prevent myself from falling to this illness as so many of my family have before. Please CAN YOU HELP!
