Just added Veganuary, Dry January and RED January (Run Every Day) to the list of challenges...... Oh! All on birthday month too 💖
My mother sadly passed away in 2016 after suffering with the effects of Dementia for around 5 years..... It is such a cruel and destructive disease and unlike many other critical illnesses there is currently no cure.....Mum suffered a range of effects from confusion & loss of memory through to loss of inhibitions and control over bodily functions.
This manifested itself in situations such as attacking our father through frustration and trying to leave the house to go shopping at 2 am only partially clothed....It's certainly not the image people have of just getting a little forgetful.
This is both cruel to the sufferers and those who care and watch their loved ones slowly deteriorate - It's absolutely heartbreaking when your own mother no longer knows who you are.....Or thinks in her mind that her husband (Dad) has died when he is alive and well at home....Her mind had tricked her into this and watching the tears roll down her cheeks you try to convince her he is alive and well.....
It is so cruel I am not ashamed to say it was a relief that she was no longer suffering when she finally passed away....
Research into finding a cure for dementia is currently massively underfunded... 1 in 4 hospital beds in the UK are currently occupied by someone suffering the effects of Dementia.
Pleas support if you can and help to raise much needed funds and find a cure......
Globally, the numbers of people living with dementia will increase from 50m in 2018 to 152m in 2050, a 204% increase.
The cost of dementia in the UK is expected to more than double in the next 25 years, from £26bn to £55bn in 2040.
