Story
After my diagnosis in December 2017 and realising the tremendous support that is available through this charity I felt I wanted to do something to support them. They can only offer this support with the generous donations given. Recently there have been many high profile celebrities diagnosed with this cancer and this has led to many more men seeking help and many new diagnoses, so fundraising is the best way we can continue this vital support.
I have been interested in restoring and enjoying the use of vintage vehicles for over forty years and have in the past supported various charities. The biggest event was riding my 1919 Royal Enfield from Lands End to John O Groats in May 1991. I helped organise this event with my friends at the Vintage Motorcycle Club and we encouraged many others to come with us. This epic journey was enjoyed by all, completed over five days and we collected £20,000 for the British Heart Foundation, our chosen charity at that time.
My bike celebrates its 100th anniversary this year as does Tesco and I am working with Mrs M Hobbes (Tesco's community champion) to hold a static display of at least ten historic motorcycles, one for each decade. This display will be part of her annual fundraising event for various charities.
In 2020 I will again be riding my very reliable Royal Enfield, this time from John O Groats down to Lands End. This event is being organised by Mr G Buckler and his team at the Vintage Motor Cycle Club. They will decide what other charities they are supporting. As this event is still in the planning stage we will update this page as and when.
