Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As a University academic who is involved in research to develop new medicines, including those to treat cancer, I was already aware of the vital support that charities such as Cancer Research UK provide. However, the true horror of the disease was recently brought home in a very personal way when we lost my Mum,, Joyce, in 2013 to breast cancer, and then my father-in-law, Jack, to stomach cancer, a few months later.
Through my work, I thought I understood the important aspects of this disease. Although this is true for some of the science, the recent deaths of our loved ones has underlined the terrible loss that we, as well as many others, face and the continuing need to win the fight against cancer.
By running this marathon, I want to personally help to raise funds that go into vital research into producing effective cures and preventions so that many more of our loved ones go on to lead long and healthy lives.
Your support is greatly appreciated and I will be thinking of Mum and Jack, as well as Charlie, Alma, and other loved ones, every step of the 26-odd miles.
Warmest regards,
Colin
