Story
Hi
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Update: Well I wouldn't say it was easy, but the 3 'old timers' (see picture) made it with various combinations of aching thighs and sore backsides. Best not to mention our time which wasn't helped by: lack of training, a puncture (not mine) after a couple of miles and a strategically placed ice cream van just as we hit the coast !
There were ~260 riders of all ages on the day and it was a great experience. I take my 'bike helmet' off to those on the full trip to Gibraltar who have incredibly already completed the daunting 2000km challenge.
Many thanks to all those who've donated to date and its not too late for those who didn't get round to it yet.
Cheers Colin
Why/What/When:
Sadly last year we lost my wife Sarah's sister Jane to breast cancer. Her husband Tim, a GP in Hampshire, was moved to set up the 'Inspired Living' charity affilliated to Cancer Research UK.
Inspired Living are encouraging up to 1,000 people to cycle from Winchester to Portsmouth in early September 2010 with 37 people going on to cycle 2,000 miles all the way to Gibraltar. The aim is to both raise money for Cancer Research and increase awareness that small improvements to diet and exercise can have a big impact on health and happiness.
Needless to say, much as I'd like to visit Gibraltar, cycling 2,000 miles is somewhat beyond my capabilities !. Therefore I will be taking on the more realistic challenge of the Winchester to Portsmouth leg of ~35 miles accompanied by Jane's: brothers, daugther and son (and hopefully many others).
If you would like to sponsor me please follow the instructions on this page. Any contribution would be very much appreciated and help Cancer Research efforts to reduce the impact of this devastating illness.
