Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and contemplating sponsoring me!
Hopefully 3rd time lucky for me and I will actually get to complete the Cardiff half marathon in October 22 in aid of prostate cancer!
After having the 1st event postponed due to Covid and then getting Covid the day before the event in March and needing to run my own version around Newport a couple of weeks later I’m now preparing to run the actual course!
As many of you know we sadly lost our dad to this horrible disease in September 2021, and I can’t believe he’s been gone for a year already.
Dad was full of life until the summer of 2020 when he just started to get back ache…you can only imagine the devastation when he was told a few months later he had stage 4 prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.
Despite battling hard Dad lost his fight in less than a year.
Im running the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd October 2022 to raise money in the hope that one day there will be no men having to fight this battle and losing! Families that won’t be left grieving a loved one that has gone to soon!
We also run for those who are living with the disease and fighting it everyday and for the families that are supporting them.
Sadly, Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the Uk and kills a man, on average, every 45mins. That’s a lot of families missing dads, brothers, grandads, uncles and friends. Unfortunately by the time the symptoms show it has often spread and can’t be cured. Prostate cancer Uk fund vital research to improve treatments and testing for this horrible disease.
There are a couple of things you can do to help, if you can then please donate to our fundraising page.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY if you are male and over 50 ( or over 45 if you have family history of prostate cancer) call your GP and book a PSA test. If you aren’t male, make sure that the men in your life go and get one and nag them if they say they are too busy!
It’s a simple blood test and just might save your / their life!!!
