Story
We are a group of students in NUI Galway who are setting out to help raise awareness and money for mental health services in NUI Galway.
Money raised will aim to financially support the use of the virtual counselling service Silvercloud™ ,and to pay for trained counselors to review the progress of students via the online platfrom. This method has been proven to be effective form of therapy and also proven to increase efficiency of counselling services like the one in NUI Galway, allowing for more one-to-one sessions to become available, thus reducing waiting lists and allowing those more in need to be seen.
Additionally we aim to support workshops where students and staff can be educated on mental health issues and be offered training in ‘mental health first aid’. Overall we hope that our efforts can also have a more subtle, but very positive effect on the mental wellbeing of the student population, by encouraging people to take the plunge with us and experience how a small daily activity like swimming in the cold Atlantic Ocean can be so beneficial to maintaining one's mental wellbeing!
This campaign is open for anyone to participate in whether it be in a big or small way, every bit of support counts.
We will meet and swim in the sea everyday at Blackrock Diving Tower, Salthill. Please come along and support us. Last year we engaged over 150+ students on some mornings and wish to see the same again this year.
Kicking off on the 1st November at Blackrock Diving Tower Salthill. Join us for the first swim and throughout!
Times for swimming will be posted on our social media channels. Follow for daily updates and more:
