Story
“On the 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading down to over 600 pools across the UK to raise money for Cancer research uk and Marie curie.”
Coco did the 1.5k last year but this year she’s attempting the longest challenge. As one of only 30 under-10s attempting the 5km across the country (out of 21,000 entrants in total) she is definitely on for a challenge. But she’s been extraordinary, training since October, spending many hours going up and down every Saturday (as well as swimming ‘normal distances’ every Friday and Monday!).
She’s now up to 150 lengths, which takes not only huge physical strength but also amazing mental resilience. Believe me 100+ lengths is hard and boring(!) I’ll be swimming behind her for each and every length giving her moral support and encouragement (as the proudest ever swimming mum).
Her target is £300 for these amazing charities:
Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you.
Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.
