Coco and Kjaer shave their heads

Coco Maertens is raising money for Little Princess Trust

Coco's Shaving · 7 August 2021

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

The idea to shave my hair first came from the play I am doing, an adaptation of Richard II where I play a female king pretending to be a man. However, as soon as I decided this, I wanted to donate my hair. Now Kjaer has joined in shaving his hair in solidarity.

Hair carries so much identity and losing it is such a big step. If I decide to take that big step to cut mine off I want my hair to make some other young persons life easier and hopefully help them on their recovery journey.

I also found out that it costs £550 to make one wig, so that's what I want to raise, so they not only get my hair, but also the money to make a wig.

Little Princess trust says:
"When a child loses their hair to cancer or another condition, we'll be there with a free, real hair wig to help restore their confidence and identity. We won't stop until the research that we fund ends childhood cancer forever. Promise.
Please visit us at www.littleprincesses.org.uk to find out how you can help us give young people back what cancer takes away.
The Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers. We receive no formal funding.
Please help to raise money for us so that we can help more families."
