Story

I was wondering what to do for my holiday in July/Aug 2011 and I came up with a wonderful idea that would help promote the NCYPE throughout mainland UK and raise a bit of cash to boot!

As an all weather motorcyclist and Support Worker I was wondering how I could raise funds for the NCYPE, where I work giving support to young people aged 18 to 23 who have epilepsy and other disabilities. Ideas of destinations for a sponsored ride floated around.  Europe was excluded as we are a UK based charity and it would seem I just wanted a free trip to Sevastopol and back. A coast to coast ride across the UK isn’t very far and can be done within the day and the Lands End to John O’Groats is a bit overdone and not much of a challenge but… I thought…what about a ride from Brighton pier anti clockwise around mainland UK.

I will be cycling just over 4,800 miles in three weeks. I will be keeping as close to the sea as possible using the small back roads along  cliff tops and not cheating by using major A roads. I will be visiting all seaside towns on the mainland at the height of summer giving maximum publicity, that’s the big seaside resorts and small out of the way fishing villages in wildest Scotland and Wales… I didn’t think it would be that far and in perspective the US is only about 4,300 miles across and the average biker does 4,000 miles a year so it is quite an undertaking. I was going to factor in days off but as a friend pointed out “what would you do on your days off?” The answer being, “ride my bike”. Some members of the Christian Motorcycling Association are riding sections with me and providing some accommodation along my route. Chandlers of Brighton are providing a setting off and welcome home reception with escort riders from the BMW franchise.
