Story
Over the last several years I have lost loved ones to dementia: my mother, Elizabeth Christian; my uncle, Robert Pontzer; and my dear 'second' mother, Marie DePillo. The disease slowly robbed these amazing people of their talents and their gifts before taking their lives from us.
Alzheimer's is a national crisis. Over 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. One in three seniors dies of Alzheimer's or another dementia. It kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. More than 11 million Americans are providing unpaid care for people living with Alzheimer's and other dementias. The Alzheimer's Association is the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research. We need your help to end this devastating disease.
Thank you to all those unsung heroes who work in nursing homes and dementia wards, providing empathic care to our loved ones.
Starting on March 10th, 2024, I am bicycling (solo and unsupported) from Santa Monica, CA to Yorktown, VA as a tribute to Elizabeth, Robert, and Marie. The ride will be 3500 miles over 50 days (or so). I will be posting photos, videos, and updates about my progress on Facebook.
Please consider donating. All money raised will go directly to the Alzheimer's Association to assist in their efforts to find a cure. Your support is greatly appreciated!
