Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In November 2018 my one year old son, George, had to endure eight hours of surgery to ‘fix’ his skull. He had Right Unicoronal Craniosynostosis and had a full skull restructure at King’s College Hospital. The skull is made up of several ‘plates’ of bone which, when we are born, are not tightly joined together. The seams where the plates join are called ‘sutures’. As we grow older, the sutures gradually fuse together, usually after all head growth has finished. When a child has craniosynostosis, the sutures fuse before birth. The surgery was a preventative measure to give George’s brain the right amount of room to grow, without causing any issues developmentally.

Surgery was successful. But seeing my darling boy so vulnerable and in pain was so much harder than I could ever have imagined. His nights in hospital were tough. He had periods of instability, his breathing deteriorated and the morphine was not enough. His face started swelling more and more.

If it wasn’t for the amazing doctors and nurses on both the Thomas Cook Children’s Critical Care Centre and The Lion Ward, I don’t know how we’d have even managed to get through George’s hospital stay.

I will be forever grateful for how comfortable they made us feel and for the round-the-clock care George received while we were there.

It only feels right now to pay something back to them, which is why I’ve decided to embark on this challenge. On the 15th August I will be tackling 5 of the Lake District’s most challenging peaks: Rossett Pike, Allen Crags, Scafell Pike, Ill Crag and Great End.

I am grateful for any donations received and need all the support I can get for my challenge!

Thank you ☺️
