Chicago White Sox pitcher and MLB All-Star Liam Hendriks threw 16 strikes against the Los Angeles Angels in his first trip back to the mound, less than six months after being diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
When Liam was first diagnosed with lymphoma in December of last year, he and his wife Kristi knew they wanted to make a difference. Determined to "close out cancer," Liam worked directly with LRF to raise money for other lymphoma survivors.
So far, Liam and the White Sox have donated more than $100,000 to support LRF's Patient Aid Grant Program.
It was recently announced that Liam will receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance in recognition of his strength and resilience in his fight against lymphoma and his determination to advocate for change. This award is given each year to "a deserving member of the sporting world who has overcome great obstacles through perseverance and determination."
