Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2012 I can remember how impressed I was when greeting Chris on the completion of his London to Paris charity cycle ride for MS. Over the next ten years he dedicated more and more time to the care of his wife Jan, who has MS. During this time he had the added complication of treatment for prostate cancer and then in late 2022, after increasing illness and testing he received the devastating diagnosis that he had MND.
In December 2022 Chris offered me the bicycle that he used on his trip from London to Paris. This proved to be the catalyst to help ease my frustration at the lack of support and help that I had so far been able to offer. My aim is to use Chris' bike to also ride from London to Paris along with my son Lloyd and his father in law Steve Carden in order to raise money for MND, via the My Name'5 Doddie charity. This seems appropriate not only for MND but also the fact that Chris and I met playing rugby over 40 years ago.
This will be a big challenge for me as I have never cycled more than 10 miles. However, it is nothing in comparison to the challenges faced by Jan and Chris every day, which they have always faced with such dignity and humour. I hope that I can do justice to this cycle challenge and with your support my fundraising effort for this devastating disease.
1,100 people are diagnosed with MND each year in the UK. For this reason with your help I hope to raise £1,100.
Thank you
Clive Martin
Unfortunately Chris will not get to see us complete the Challenge because he suddenly passed away, on April 27th, after only being diagnosed four months before. We will complete the Challenge knowing that our build up and fund raising was a great comfort to him during his last few months and a real tribute to a great man.
