Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Why am I doing the Clipper Race? Well, why not? It was a good time in my life for a new adventure, and I wanted to learn a new skill along the way. And having never properly* sailed before, learning to crew a 70ft ocean racing yacht and then racing home from Seattle to London seemed like a good way of doing it.
What am I doing: On April 14th 2016, I will be flying to Seattle to join my team: Team Garmin, and officially taking up my post as crew for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2015-16. Over the course of Legs 7 & 8, I will complete 5 races, around the Americas and traversing the Panama Canal, across the Atlantic Ocean from NYC to Northern Ireland, over the top of the UK to the Netherlands and finally back to London, arriving home on Saturday 30th July 2016.
Sponsorship: This is an entirely self-funded race and all costs relating to my taking part in the Clipper Race have already been paid. But my doing this Race also presents an opportunity to raise some money for a good cause too so this is what this page is all about. Why Alzheimer's Society? Because when it's all finally over and the dust has settled, I'm going to have the most incredible memories of this experience which I hope will last me until I'm old and decrepit. But because of soul-destroying disorders like dementia and Alzheimer's, not everyone gets to keep their memories and they obliterate personalities, families, and relationships along the way. I've seen it happen first hand and it's devastating. So all research into finding ways for people to keep their memories, and more importantly themselves, into old age can only be a good thing. Any donation, however big or small, would be very much appreciated.
You can also now text your sponsorship! Text 'CECW99 £amount' to 70070 (obviously replacing amount with your donation!). You can donate £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 by text. For any other amount you'll need to donate online. You'll get a donation confirmation text within 24 hours.

(* Falling out of a Pico dinghy for a few hours on holiday once does not constitute sailing!)
