Story
The Clipper Round the World yacht race started on the 31st August in London. They are now more than halfway around the world on their eleven month-long challenge. So far, they have faced extreme heat and cold, the ‘Roaring Forties’ in the Southern Ocean above Antarctica, and survived a battering during the classic Australian Sydney-Hobart race, which all Clipper Race teams completed despite a third of the rest of the competitors being forced to retire in a ‘southerly buster’ storm. They have recently left Qingdao (China) for the north Pacific crossing to Seattle.
Next month (April) I will join the crew in Seattle and sail down to Panama (about 4 weeks), through the canal and up to New York (about 2 weeks).
In preparation, we have all completed 4 weeks of training. I did the first three training sessions in Sydney and the final session in Gosport with my skipper and other crew members on our boat (Mission Performance).
Unicef is the sponsored charity for the race.
