In 2010 the MMUK home in Bradford, England underwent an extension taking it from 10 to 22 beds. Currently, only 13 of those beds are occupied. In 2011 as a team we have set out to raise £100,000 to help ensure that all 22 of those beds are filled with young women. Between the 7th and the 16th October 2011 we will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. We are not just climbing a mountain, we are climbing for Mercy! We want to see more lives transformed and hope restored. Will you help us to achieve this?
If you would like any further information about this event, please email us at climbformercy@mercyministries.co.uk

Who are Mercy Ministries UK?
Mercy Ministries UK is a national charity dedicated to providing a free-of-charge, six-month residential Christian discipleship programme for young women, suffering from life controlling issues such as eating disorders, self-harm, depression and the effects of abuse in all its forms. There is a desperate need for organisations like Mercy Ministries UK to provide the support that tackles the root causes of these issues, rather than merely medicating the symptoms. We are committed to providing the young women we serve with the most excellent programme services that allow them to recognise their self-worth and prepares them to reach their full potential.
As well as one to one sessions with a facilitator, we also provide life skills training which is designed to equip the young women for the future. This includes:
nutrition awareness fitness training
relationship management housekeeping
cooking & basic nutrition “Personal Effectiveness” course
Why is there a need for MMUK?
We exist because in the United Kingdom alone:
1 in 15 young people are trapped in a cycle of self-harm and this rate is amongst the highest in Europe
1.15 million people have an eating disorder and the most likely affected are young women aged 15 -25
Anorexia Nervosa has one of the highest rates of death for any psychiatric condition
1 in 4 women will require treatment for depression at some time
1 in 4 women will experience sexual violation, or attempted sexual violation
Testimony from a MMUK graduate:
“Before I came to Mercy Ministries UK, I was on self-destruct and didn’t care who else I hurt. I went to various forms of counselling, yet nothing seemed to really help and make any lasting difference. I applied to Mercy as my last bit of hope. Throughout my stay at Mercy and working the programme, I learnt to be able to process all the negative feelings and destructive coping mechanisms in a healthy way from a Christian perspective. Under the care of the local GP, I came off the anti-depressants that Doctors had told me I’d constantly need throughout my life. I used to have a victim mentality but now, thanks to the Mercy programme I have learnt to take responsibility for my own life." Cath
