TRMC CLIFF ASSAULT CHALLENGE - RM MEMORIAL
I have been selected to be part of an eight man team of former Royal Marines that will be taking on a challenge to help raise vital funds for the Royal Marines charity. This charity has struggled in 2020 to raise the money much needed by injured marines and the families of our fallen due to many events that they normally rely on being cancelled, down to the COVID lockdowns.
On the 23rd October 2020 we will be starting our 246 cliff ascents carry a cross for each of the Royal Marines that have died since 1948 in active duty, we believe this challenge will take 3 days to complete with 12 hours of each day being used for the climbs and 12 hours for rest, our challenge will take place at Emmets hill in Dorset, there is a memorial for fallen Royal Marines at the top and this is where we will lay the crosses, we will also be carrying all the safety equipment that we need during our climbs.
By the time the challenge is complete we would have ascended higher than Mount Everest, if we manage to complete the 246 ascents within the three days then we may opt to push ourselves to 356 as this will celebrate the 356th birthday of the Royal Marines.
We will be staying COVID safe throughout the challenge as working in two groups of four.
