Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was a teacher (Biology) and a TA Parachute Regiment Officer. On taking early retirement from teaching, I retrained as a Medical Herbalist, retiring recently after becoming an OAP.
I've been running seriously, with some success in my age group for about 5 years, and, in May 2011, I will take part in the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. (www.comrades.com) Established in the 1920s in memory of the South African dead of World War I, this race is recognised as one of the most challenging road-race ultra-marathons in the World.
The Comrades Marathon always takes place between Durban and Pietermaritzberg, a distance of 56 miles, but the Start and Finish alternate each year. 2011 will be an 'up' year, starting in Durban, the highest point on the very undulating course being 870m. Runners finishing outside the 12-hour cut-off time do not even have their times recorded, and receive no commemorative medal.
By the time I take part in this race, I will be in my 66th year.
I will be running for Cancer Research UK, and hope that your sponsorship and my efforts will help in the fight against this cruel disease.
Please do your best - I will !
