Dear Friends,
I write today to ask for your support in making the 2023 Tour des Trees the most successful fund-raising event in the history of the Tree Research and Education Endowment (TREE FUND). 100 tree-loving cyclists have all pledged to raise a minimum of $3,700 to support arboricultural research, and a quick look at the fundraiser leaderboard will show you that many have already far exceeded that goal. In addition, many corporate sponsors have stepped up to lend their support as well. My wife, Linda Nanni, and I both plan to ride the full Tour and are out on our bikes logging in the 100-200 miles per week that it takes to train for the very challenging bicycle ride ahead. It will start in Reno, Nevada and wind its’ way over the Sierra Nevada Mountains, past Lake Tahoe, and on to Modesto and San Jose, with a final big climb over the coast range to Half Moon Bay.
Along the way we will participate in community tree planting events and presentations to groups of all ages, spreading the word that caring for trees and raising the money needed to unlock their secrets really does matter.
I am hoping that you will be willing to join me in this effort and, like myself, will see this as an opportunity rather than an obligation. As global temperatures rise it becomes crucial to our health and well-being to cultivate and expand forests in our urban areas, and growing trees in these harsh conditions is not easy, especially with the threat posed by recently introduced pests and diseases. Throughout my life I have partnered with my colleagues and many valued clients to nurture and care for trees. I can think of no better way to extend that care and love for trees to future generations than by supporting the work of the TREE Fund. Please contribute now by clicking on the link to my fundraising page. Or, feel free to contact me directly if you want to know more about the TREE Fund or would like to participate in a special way in this year’s “Ride for Research”.
Ride Safe,
Clem Desjardins
