Event: Brindleyplace Dragon Boat Race 2018, on 16 June 2018
On Saturday June 16th 2018, businesses across the West Midlands will battle it out on the canals of Brindleyplace in traditional Chinese Dragon Boats to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia.

Story

Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer. The previous years’ funds went towards the charity’s £1m appeal to fully fund the £3.4m expansion of the Centre for Clinical Haematology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, which reopened in January 2018, and has now doubled its capacity.

The 18 teams compete to become the city’s best paddlers whilst in fancy dress; Clearwater has a ‘World Cup Legends’ theme in anticipation of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Cure Leukaemia fund research nurses at 15 hospitals across the UK.
