Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I am 21 and have just finished a degree in English Literature at Edge Hill university. I am volunteering Chiang Rai, Thailand for three months in September 2013 to teach English to children at a rural school as part of a project run by the small charity VESL (Volunteers for Educational Support and Learning).
English in Thailand is incredible important as without this skill young adults are unable to go on to study at University or gain employment. Perhaps an even more important issue is that the main ethnic communities within Thailand share no other common language. Spoken English is essential to help cement the newly found peace within the country and help to provide communities with a shared means to communicate and reach their potential aspirations.
The charity has been working in rural schools within Thailand since 2003 and their volunteers have been able to provide thousands of children with an oportunity to gain invaluable experience of spoken English that has been of a real and measured benefit to their future prospects.
VESL is a charity and not-for-profit organisation. As a volunteer I am fundraising towards the cost of setting up and running this important programme. As we receive no government grants or funding, I am appealing for a donation (however small) from you so that this beneficial work can continue.
I am going to be doing a few events before September to help raise the money needed to cover the project, including trekking up Mount Snowdon in July! The cause is worth it though, so a donation of any size will be very much appreciated!
