Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This cause means a lot to me and my family because we have seen first-hand the effects of the disease.
Diabetes is a chronic disease where the pancreas either does not produce enough insulin (the hormone controlling blood sugar), or the body cannot effectively use the insulin produced. This causes a multitude of problems within the human body, including damage to nerves, blood vessels, kidneys, heart and eyes.
In 2014, the global prevalence of diabetes was 9% in people aged 18 and over, and in 2012 the number of deaths caused directly by the disease was an estimated 1.5 million. (facts from the World Health Organization)
Despite the fact that type 2 diabetes can be controlled to an extent, the cause of type 1 diabetes is still a mystery, and this is what JDRF is trying to change.
JustGiving ensures that your donations are sent directly to the charity, and personal details are never shared.
