Story
Dearest friends and loved ones,
I’ll be honest with you all. I don’t like running.
But in the face of such adversity, a few months ago I decided to sign up for the Windsor half marathon which takes place on Sunday 25 September. With the aid of my trusted and dedicated trainer – who also happens to be my brother Harley – I’ve been fighting my laziness with blood, sweat and tears! Blisters, hell yeah. Sweat, i sweat lying down so you can imagine what jogging does to those old sweat glands! Tear...not so much but there is still the race to go.
So hears the catch. I’ve decided to try and raise as much money as possible for small, local charity in Sierra Leone – AdvocAid – who provide legal services, parental support and education to women who have been imprisoned (often wrongly). I’ve set an ambitious fundraising target of £500, and I’m really hoping you can help me reach it. Also Google will match any money you give so it's doubly good
Sierra Leone is a small country in West Africa that is recovering from a decade long civil war. While the country has made huge progress, the majority of Sierra Leoneans live on less that a dollar a day. Legal support – particularly for women detainees – is almost non-existent. Women are regularly imprisoned for crimes they did not commit, handed lengthy jail sentences for petty theft, or simply detained for years on end because their case files have been lost. AdvocAid does truly wonderful work in supporting women who are imprisoned in deplorable conditions.
