High Hopes Hike 2018
Campaign by Blood Cancer UK (RCN 216032)
The High Hopes Hike is a 10-mile trek up Devil’s Staircase, an off-road route which runs through Scotland’s Glencoe mountains.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When one of our 4 children , our daughter Niamh aged 4 at the time,  kept on getting nosebleeds, bruises all over her body and was sleeping all the time, our instincts told us that something was not right. We took her to the doctor a few times but they said that she was fine and that all kids get bruises. That statement just did not sit right with us, so the whole family marched into the doctors office once more and demanded  a blood  test. Within half an hour she was diagnosed with Leukemia (AML) and sent to hospital where she spent the next 4 weeks in isolation as her platelets were extremely low. Trying to understand what just hit us, trying to explain it to her siblings and our family, trying to understand the illness, the treatment, the consequences was difficult, trying to keep it together was even more difficult.  With help from the hospital, doctors, nurses, support groups , family, friends and neighbours we got through it one day at a time. She got the treatment she needed with all its ups and downs and she has been in remission for quite a while now. She is one of the lucky ones and we appreciate everyday with her - even throughout puberty :)

Thank you for supporting this good cause!
