Story
Clarion Housing is delighted to have chosen St Mungo's as our charity partner for the next three years. We will be utilising our skills, properties, expertise and funding to help St Mungo’s in their mission to end homelessness and rebuild lives.
Clarion has made a corporate donation of £20,000 and once we've matched this we'll set the next target.
St Mungo’s provides a focused, holistic recovery model leading the way in alleviating the homelessness crisis. They provide comprehensive support in guiding people away from the streets and into accommodation and employment. Every year they support over 30,000 people to access housing, improve their physical and mental health and through personal development, find employment.
St Mungo’s as an organisation faces a huge array of challenges in their work. Prior to COVID-19, England was already experiencing a homelessness crisis, with the number of people sleeping rough on our streets increasing by a shocking 141% since 2010. Over 4,000 people were estimated to be sleeping rough on a 'typical' night.
COVID -19 is a global pandemic which, according to the World Health Organisation, affects vulnerable people disproportionately. This includes people who are homeless or have complex health needs. We know that people affected by homelessness are far more likely to have health problems that increase their risk of getting ill, with many having residual health issues from exposure, such as pneumonia, or a compromised immune system. St Mungo’s is working to support hundreds of people sleeping rough into temporary hotel accommodation to protect them from the virus.
As we launch our new charity partner, our first priority is to help St Mungo’s amidst the current crisis. Please donate what you can so that St Mungo’s can continue their lifesaving work. Now more than ever, St Mungo's need our help to ensure those sleeping rough and those in homelessness services are not forgotten and have somewhere safe to say and self-isolate.
