Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
For many years I have stood outside the City Pride pub in Docklands, beer in hand, shouting on friends and strangers alike. I have watched in awe at their achievements, buoyed by the wonderful atmosphere of London on marathon day; sure it was something I would never be able to complete.
Following a journey from women’s only 5K’s, through night-time 10k’s to a hilly half marathon, I stand on the brink of being at the start line of the London Marathon 2009.
The training has sometimes been difficult and rarely injury free, but each week the reality that I would make it to the start line has become closer.
So here I am, all long runs completed (19.3 being the longest of the long) and it’s time to turn my thoughts to raising some money.
I’m running in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. My Sister in Law’s Mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 52 and has required 24 hour residential care for the past 7 years. Whilst the disease has received a lot of publicity recently through celebrity sufferers there is a great need for funds to support research and treatment of this incurable illness which impacts not only the sufferer but the whole family.
The Alzheimer’s Society provides a vital helpline for people affected by dementia and conduct research on areas including stem cell research, early diagnosis, risk factors, vaccines and alternative and complementary therapies.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you!
