Story
From first time solo-trips building the confidence to explore, finding happiness in spectacular scenic escapes, or simply being a base for friends to start and finish adventures from; the YHA has been an organisation I've supported for many years as an adult, as it's provided me with the space, and safety to be a little more brave. Their locations around the UK have allowed me to see just a tiny amount of the country and I hope that by taking on this challenge I can highlight and share some of the wonderful work and opportunities the YHA have for young people - something I wish I'd known when I was younger!
In this challenge I'll take on a group trek, starting our ascent of Snowdon, all 1,085 meters (3560ft) of it, around 01:00 to climb by torchlight, aiming to reach the summit for first light, and then descending back down the mountain as the world awakens. While my words make this sound enchanting, the physicality of this trek, the time, the lack of light, as well as being self-sufficient and carrying everything I could need, is going to be a serious ask. Over the next 6 weeks I'll be doing what I can to acclimatise from the casual walks home, building up to multi-hour walks, working on blisterproofing my feet, and generally building up fitness so I'm not worrying about holding everyone else up, more than trying to enjoy the experience.
If you don't know much about the YHA, hopefully their statement will help inspire you to donate.
