Story
As you know I do like to get out of my comfort zone… well this takes the biscuit!!!,
When an email landed in my in-box at work a short while back about a 430Km cycle trek across Madagascar, I thought 'Hmmmm’. I like the sound of that'. As I read further into it and words such as 'hills', 'hard work', 'steep hills', 'physically challenging', jumped out at me, I found myself surprised that I was not put off! I actually really quite liked the idea of getting hot and sweaty Cycling 430km through highland villages and paddy fields, tropical fruit plantations and coastal trails. So in a moment of madness, I sent off my application form, and here I am.... In dire need of getting fit…. So far my focus has been on the fundraising element but I know that it’s equally important to have legs and butt cheeks of steel!!!
For those who know the work that I do, you’ll know my passion for working with those people less fortunate than us. You’ll also know that I’ve got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about equal opportunities and working to enhance the lives of those in the minority whose daily lives are challenged by poverty and inequality. I also hate waste. We have so much and yet we waste so much. So computer Aid for me combines some very important factors in life. Maximising resources, improving opportunities for children and empowering people to improve their own lives.
Computer Aid International take all of our unwanted, old, decrepit, broken and out of date PC equipment and gives it a new lease of life, before sending it out to developing countries where less fortunate children and adults get the opportunity to develop skills to help them break away from poverty.
During the challenge we will visit a school where donated PC's have made a difference.
So I'm dusting off my bike, digging out my lycra (not really) and eying up every hill and bumpy track as a potential trial for the big event, which, by the way, is due to take place between the 27th September to the 5th October 2008.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Computer Aid International will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
