Story
Cancer is an unfortunate and horrid disease which affects people more than ever in today's world. I have been affected by the saddening effects of cancer, with the loss of my gran when I was only 8 years old, but also the joyous feelings of overcoming it, with the survival of my great uncle a few years ago- he is still going strong!
Most importantly for me is the fact that I am lucky to be alive. My father had cancer in his early twenties, but he was a fighter and survived. As a result, my sister and I are lucky to have even been born. The reason my sister is named Zoe is because in Greek it means 'life'.
I have decided to participate in a Race for Life this year to raise awareness and support for Cancer Research UK. Without the research of this fantastic organisation, people would not be surviving cancer like they are today.
I believe that it is good to set yourself goals and challenges, as a way of embracing life. I have decided that I will jog 10km at the Race for Life in Leicester on Sunday 5th July 2015- now this will be a big challenge for me!
I am jogging not just to promote awareness for Cancer Research UK and in memory of loved ones, but also to improve my own health (since lifestyle is a contributing factor to cancer).
I would love to reach my target of £500 so please, dig deep and donate for a worthy cause- I promise to not let anyone down on the day and jog the whole 10km! :)
Also I have started writing a blog, which will detail my fitness journey, as well was posts about Cancer Research UK and healthy recipes. Please do check it out here- https://clarebear7.wordpress.com/
