Story
UPDATE - I hoped I might complete this challenge before writing the following update but that was not to be.
Sadly, my soul mate of 28 years lost his fight to this devastating disease on Wednesday 16th October. Pete remained at home for the duration of his illness and his death, which is what he always wanted. I will be forever grateful to all agencies who enabled this, but especially the Marie Curie Nurses who took such beautiful care of Pete in the last few days of his life and were there with us at the end.
I cannot be with you on the next part of your journey my love, but you will be forever with me, in every sunrise, in the blackbird's song, in the starlit night xx
Some of you will know that my husband Pete was diagnosed with a high grade brain tumour in May this year. Unfortunately by the time he was diagnosed it was too late for any course of treatment to be effective, so he was sent home to make the most of what time he has left - a top estimate of 12 months.
Sadly Pete's health deteriorated quickly and within a few weeks he was bedbound with right side paralysis. Perhaps one of the most difficult things for him to deal with was losing the ability to communicate; it was heartbreaking to see his frustration as he struggled to find the words he wanted. It was also a source of great amusement to me that the last thing he was able to say with absolute clarity was '£uckin' #ell' which he shouted frequently when failing to make himself understood!
So, to the challenge...I dont quite know why I'm signing up for this as daily life is quite challenging enough at the moment...but having a brain tumour is $h!t, it robs you of the person you love in the cruelest of ways and it does it quick. Reseach into brain tumours is woefully underfunded and the money is needed to make the breakthroughs that have been seen in other forms of cancer treatment.
So this November I'll be attempting to walk 99 miles which works out at 3.3 miles a day....or 330 laps of my back garden a day! I might get lucky and manage a few long dog walks but this all has to fit in around looking after Pete!
