Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am going to walk up snowdon on the 6th april 2019 (trying my hardest to reach the top.) Also my husband and a best friend will be doing a 57 mile bike ride from virgina water lakes to hayling island on the 1st june 2019 all to raise awareness and fundraise for the research in ovarian cancer.
Unfortunately there isn’t enough research, awareness, treatments and no screening for ovarian cancer. Hopefully with enough research we can find so much more knowledge into ovarian cancers and a cure to save so many lives in the future . Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties.
Breast cancer and cervical cancer have screenings, effective treatments due to research and massive worldwide awareness.
So why are our ovaries any less important to our other female parts?. Are ovaries are what make us !!
March is ovarian cancer month but there is no tv adverts, discussions on talk shows, hardly any awareness being shared. But it’s here and affects so many woman.
Here’s my story
At the age of 30 back in 2016. i was diagnosed with a rare form ovarian cancer - Low grade serous carcinoma.I had major open surgery in November 2016 due to it spreading. This included a full hysterectomy, debulking, bowel reconstruction also liver scrapping. I then had a course of chemotherapy . Even though this type of cancer is resistant to chemotherapy but some hope was better then none as it has a high chance of recurrence. Chemo would hopefully kill what ever was left microscopically.
Roughly a year after surgery in 2017 , two tumours were found to then be told the cancer had returned. Another surgery was on the cards. We had a few big complications refering surgery and hospital (sometimes i think things happen for a reason and a good job as wouldn’t of found out where were at now ) so brings me to where we are now, So a pet scan was request after a discussion about the surgery required to remove the tumours due to the position and wether they were able to remove them ( nothing ever simple with me) It was not going to be a straight forward surgery and would be more major then the one i had in 2017, with server complications.
Just before Christmas the pet scans where back and showed up something we was not expecting at all and made our world come crashing down. Another tumour. This time being in my mediastum, close to my heart and lungs .
So due to its location , size and no other effective treatments. It is incurable.
So i am living my best life, making memories and enjoying whatever time i have before it takes it. Its unknown how long and I try not to think about it.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
That is why i want to fundraise for ovarian cancer action. I fundraised last year and nearly raised $2,000 and going to continue doing it each year i can.
Every little helps
