Story
I know, this is crazy! But it’s true....I am training for an Ironman!!!
I enjoy being active but am far from being an athlete – and doing a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, then a 26.2 mile run (all in under 17 hours!) sounds crazy when you see it written down in black and white. But since working at Headley Court I seem to have lost perspective on reality! And seeing Team True Spirit's achievements last year has inspired me to challenge myself beyond anything I would have ever considered possible before....so I’ve found myself as part of the team, training to take part in this amazing (ridiculous?!) event.
Team True Spirit (http://www.truespirit.org.uk/) consists of recovering servicemen/women and support staff who will be undertaking a series of races in 2012. By completing these various events the team hope to inspire others to believe that anything is possible.
Of the 6 charities the team are supporting, I've chosen to fundraise for the Forces Children's Trust - please see this link for more information on the great work they do: www.forceschildrenstrust.org/
I’m excited about the adventure ahead and about being part of Team True Spirit as we support each other on the road to Bolton. And I’m looking forward to having a great excuse to eat as much as I like over the next few months!
So once you’ve got over the shock (and stopped laughing!) at this immense challenge I’ve taken on, please please spare a few pennies to help me support our team - and to help motivate me to keep training and reach the finish line!
