On April 22nd I will be running the London marathon. This will be my first ever marathon. All 26.2 miles.
And I plan on running it all. Every little step.
As a child I have fond memories of watching the runners taking part in the London marathon as we would watch them both on tv and going to see the ‘action’ around the 5 mile area.
I never thought I’d be taking on the same challenge.
I am raising money for Wessex Cancer Trust as cancer touches everyone’s lives.
In 2015, my mum had a diagnosis of multiple myeloma. She entered into a long period of treatment. In 2016 my mum underwent stem cell treatment which has enabled her cancer to enter a period of remission. It will however return so we need to live life fully, make memories and I’d love to make her proud.
In 2017 my Nan was taken ill and eventually diagnosed with bowel cancer. She then began life saving (& changing) surgery and is now winning her battle with cancer.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate. Others in my family and friends have also battled against it. Some didn’t win their fight. Some are fighting with every ounce of their being right now.
On the 22nd of April I will be running for those still fighting, those who are no longer with us and to make memories. It’s going to be tough. And very very emotional.
Knowing that this will be raising much needed funds will spur me on.
I hope to raise money to enable others to receive support just like my family.

A little about Wessex Cancer Trust
Every year around 23,000 people are diagnosed with cancer within the Wessex region. A diagnosis can be a shock and have a huge impact on an entire family. Wessex Cancer Trust helps and supports anyone affected by cancer regardless of age, gender or type of cancer. Our dedicated team are committed to offering free support for as long as people need it, away from a hospital environment.
At all our cancer Support Centres, clients are welcomed by volunteer befrienders who are equipped to provide information, support, and a listening ear. A team of specialist counsellors are on hand help deal with the emotional impact of cancer, and complementary therapies aim to improve well-being, help with pain management and increase self-confidence.
We provide health and well-being information, exercise programmes and courses to help you move on from cancer.
Each year Wessex Cancer Trust reaches over 8,000 people in the local community.
