Story
in 2019 our mum, nan & friend Eileen James was cared for at LOROS. At her funeral my Dad, Denis Thornton paid tribute to the staff. Just seven weeks later, when he died, we discovered he had requested donations to LOROS in lieu of flowers.
We will be running for them both and also in memory of Vanessa's mum, Molly who was also cared for at a hospice.
The pandemic has had a MASSIVE impact on fundraising for charities, so your support is needed more than ever.
We have all previously ran 10km - but this will be over twice that distance so will be a definite challenge! We would really appreciate it if you could spare the price of a pint to help us. If you are able to give more - even better. The picture above is a good reflection of how, despite dealing with death, hospices can be happy places. Your donation will help LOROS to continue to deliver excellent care with compassion (and humour for the patients like mum who love to laugh!).
LOROS has cared for other family members and friends. Sadly, it is likely, we all know (or will know) someone who needs palliative care. Dad died in hospital- and consequently we are very aware at the stark contrast. Hospices like LOROS provide immeasurable compassionate support at the most difficult time.
Please spare what you can as your donations will help keep us motivated during the tough training that lies ahead; I am very keen to do this ( but will this be enough to get me round 13 miles??), Vanessa is extremely accident prone and there are genuine concerns she may not make it through training unscathed and Dan despite having youth on his side, hasn't ran for a LONG TIME and has only just signed up (whilst trying to quit smoking!)
With just 9 weeks to go, our aim is to finish before night falls - ideally before the cones get collected!.
Please dig as deep as we will have to to get up the hill on the return to the finish line!
Many thanks in advance,
Clare, Vanessa & Dan
