I have a number of friends and family who have been affected by breast cancer and, being a mother of two girls myself, I dream of the day when this disease is no longer a threat.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a charity dedicated to saving lives by finding the causes of breast cancer, improving detection, diagnosis, treatment and services. I have supported this charity for seven years now and the Great North Run is a great opportunity to raise a bit of money to help them continue their amazing research.

Being a South Shields girl, I always said that one day I would do the Great North Run. So in October 2011, I started running for the very first time. I caught the running bug immediately and I have continued to run three times a week whatever the weather!
