Story

Hello everyone,

I must be bonkers...but... I would really like to attempt the Wycombe half marathon this July, it will be a great way to raise some money for a wonderful charity 'Changing faces' and to hopefully complete a personal challenge in my 50th year.

As some of you will already know we had a rather worrying and 'eye opening' experience 3 years ago with George.  Thank goodness George coped brilliantly and is fantastically well.  At this time George's jaw was pronounced, he felt very self conscious which affected his confidence and self-image.  Although in comparison to many others it seems minimal, it did make us realise how facial disfigurement can really affect a person's well-being.

George has regular check ups and understands that he will have surgery to replace the affected jaw and have lots of lovely new teeth implanted, he is a 'star' like many children that have to cope with something a bit different.

This experience introduced us to the work of the brilliant maxilliofacial surgeons and ‘Changing faces'.

This charity works with some of the 1 million affected children and families to cope with the harsh realities of life with a facial or body disfigurement.  Imagine the impact of going to school and being bullied, called names and being talked about, or having people constantly stare at you when you walk down the street or go shopping.

So….I hope you agree, a worthy cause, their work makes a difference to many children’s lives and offers great support to adult sufferers too!
