Story
Swimming lengths in the pool is the closest I get to meditation. I turn 46 on 3rd April 2022, so I thought, why not swim 46 miles between now (7th Dec 2021) and then? 46 miles translates to 74030 metres, which is 2962 lengths of my local pool. What could possibly go wrong, apart from a) bleeping Covid, b) my limbs falling off, c) biting off more than I can chew?
Edit: having overlooked the physical effects of grief and consequently scuppered my shoulder, I've had to take bits of time out from swimming, so haven't hit my target of 3rd April - but I'm aiming to be done by early May, shoulder permitting...
I’m raising money for Heart Research UK in memory of my wonderful husband Iain, who died suddenly and very unexpectedly of a heart-related condition in October 2021 at 48 years old; any money raised will help with research that might prevent other entirely untimely deaths.
Iain was a remarkably good swimmer/triathlete/bikepacker/very humble all-round superstar who would have approved of setting a random challenge fractionally beyond one’s perceived abilities, that one is not entirely sure one can achieve. Of course, in Iain tradition, this means I have to somehow smash it out of the park :-/ Let’s see how it goes…
