Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We intrepid cousins are heading off to the Sahara in November 2019
to take on mighty sand dunes and scorching temperatures as well as the odd scorpion and other unmentionables.
We’ll fly into Marrakech, then have a 9-hour drive over the High Atlas
mountains down to Ouarzazate, and on to the desert where we will begin our challenging, full-on trek into the depths of the Sahara desert.
We will be walking for an average of 7/8 hours every day. We’re told there will be no roads, no people, no phones. Just us and raw nature. So that means camping, fine for Andrea but a first for Clare despite the fact she’s in her fifties!
Apparently, shovels are provided in the absence of a toilet and there is no need to take any shower gel as bathing facilities are not provided.
So why are we doing this?
We’re doing this as it will be a complete challenge and achievement. But also to raise funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, Eastbourne. This is an amazing organisation that has supported our family for the last few years when Clare’s mum, (Andrea’s aunt) was diagnosed with terminal cancer – from the fabulous nursing care given to Linda, to the continued bereavement support.
We want to help raise funds to enable more families to receive the tremendous support offered by such a wonderful charity - trekking the Sahara is the least we can do.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated. If it’s a donation through this page that’s fantastic, but if you prefer to email, text or phone to offer a raffle prize or pledge a service or something we can auction, that would be great. We are truly grateful to all those that can help us reach our target – thank you in advance.
