Story
When MASH Manchester contacted me about CEO Sleepout I'd already walked past 6 homeless people on the streets of Manchester that morning, and that was just one street.
Seeing makeshift 'homes' in the doorways of closed shops always makes me wonder how I'd cope living on the streets. If I woke up and was hungry, would anyone give me their change for some food? If I was desperate for the loo, where could I go? If I left my belongings, the little I'd have, would they be there when I returned? Would people see me as a nuisance and turn a blind eye to my existence? Would I survive?
I know it's only one night I'll be sleeping outside and the thought already fills me with anxiety. But what I do know is homelessness should be a thing of the past. I love my home city of Manchester dearly and if I can do this one thing to help raise awareness, and funds through your generosity, then my one night outside will be the beginning of my journey to help the city's most vulnerable residents.
