Story
To celebrate the NHS' 75th birthday, I'm continuing my fundraising for NHS Charities Together, by running the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 (and possibly some other surprises ;)) along the way!
The NHS is so much more than just COVID-19. Back in 2011 - at 13 years old I had a spinal fusion to correct a 65 degree, S-shaped curve in my spine. I'm now complete with two metal rods and a bunch of screws either side of my spine. I have a completely in-flexible back, but I've had my life totally transformed because of the operation. - a massive thank-you to the team at Addenbrookes!
As a kid, I never was the sporty person, but after having the operation I decided to prove everyone wrong, jumped in at the deep end and ran a half marathon! It was very slow, but haven't looked back since.
I'm now a member of the local running club, on a mission to keep shaving off as much time as I can! (I'm very competitive!). Unbelievably, this will be my 3rd London Marathon - the first was 2019, then 2021, and now I'm training through the heatwaves in 2022! Even though I'm mild asthmatic, caught covid then a cough I couldn't shift, my competitive spirit continues to reach new heights - I may be slow but I cannot be defeated ;)
The reason I've chosen NHS Charities Together spans so much further than just my back - we've all used the NHS at some points. They've also supported my grandparents through all sorts of challenges. It's amazing that despite the world-circumstances we find ourselves in, the NHS are still there 24/7, for everyone.
