Story
I am running the London marathon for my amazing mum who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis around 20 years ago, at a similar age to what I am now.
There is currently no cure for MS. It is a cruel and heartbreaking disease and I will do anything I can to support the MS Society in their continuing work to find a cure and to support individuals and their families.
An MS diagnosis is devastating and has so many varying symptoms for each individual. For some people, MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission while for others, including my mum, it has a progressive pattern.
My Mum has Primary Progressive MS and now is dependent on her wheelchair or scooter all of the time and has many other symptoms that affect everyday life. For everyone, MS makes life unpredictable.
Everyday is like a marathon for mum and she approaches this with positivity as much as she can. She is an inspiration and this has given me the motivation to run my own marathon.
Running the marathon will be the biggest personal challenge I have ever set myself. I only started running again in November (I haven’t run for 7+ years) once my charity place was confirmed.
Since then running has taken over my life! In 10 weeks I have managed to go from couch to 10 miles so I’m slowly getting there.
I have an amazing and extremely supportive family and friends who are all helping out with training and childcare!
I hope that one day there is a cure for MS.
