Funds are needed to assist the British Horse Society with the running costs of their nation-wide welfare scheme. This is to ensure that they can continue providing an effective welfare system with a rapid response to reports of horses in distress. The majority of the cases that they deal with involve neglect rather then cruelty and in most cases are resolved by educating the owners. However occasionally they are needed to step in and help other welfare organisations such as with the huge cruelty case in Amersham where 30 horses were found dead. The British Horse Society voiced their support which resulted in the yard being raided which meant that 80 horses were rescued. The society will now continue to help with the recovery of these animals and may even put them on to their re-homing scheme where possible. Alongside all this they are also there to offer help and advice to owners in the form of leaflets and course where appropriate.

I have therefore decided to join the British Horse Society Viking Riding Challenge to help raise some funds.
