Thanks for visiting my Race for Life page.
Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK
Did you know that every 11 minutes in the UK a woman is given the heart breaking news that she has breast cancer.
I was 30 years old when I received my diagnosis last summer. Since then I've had six months of treatment and I’m lucky to now be in remission. That was the scariest and most powerful time in my life and although I’m not finished with it yet, it’s now time for me to start giving back and do what I can to help and support those who are still going through it.
It's hard to explain the range of emotions you encounter whilst fighting cancer but charities such as Cancer Research, MacMillian Cancer Support, Maggie's, Coppafeel & Breast Cancer Care really do help. They make you feel safe and essentially not so alone with your diagnosis. I am forever indebted to such charities.
From the moment I was diagnosed I wanted to find ways to help, since then I have become an ambassador for the breast cancer charity Coppafeel and volunteered to take part in various clinical research trials to help scientists discover more information about the disease. Taking part in Race For Life feels like the right next step for me.
Although the fight against cancer is developing fast and treatments are becoming more precise and therefore less aggressive for the individual, there is still a vast amount of unknown crucial information and for those being treated it’s a terrifying reality. Information is key to fighting Cancer and saving lives. If I was treated 20 years ago I know I would have had a completely contrasting experience, so just think what it could be in 20 years from now! Not only is that an exciting prospect but its also a powerful place for us to be as we have the ability to help save countless lives.
My own experience with cancer made me realize how little information there is on such a devastating disease, especially for younger woman and how far there is to go. So what ever we can do to help whether it be a marathon, 10k, 5k or even just have the balls to put up a make-up free selfie on social media, its something towards the fight against cancer.
With your help, I would love the opportunity to help this battle and raise money for Cancer Research, who I have so much to be grateful for.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
