Story
To all my friends, family and colleagues!
On Sunday 13 September I will be taking part in the Great North Run in memory of Peter Burl Dowen, my partner James’ inspiring Father. Pete died in April 2014 at the age of 65 following a heroic but devastating fight with cancer.
Pete was diagnosed in November 2011 with a very rare form of Pancreatic cancer and was treated with surgery and chemotherapy. There has been little research into this form of cancer and so Pete was given chemotherapy normally used to fight the most common form of Pancreatic cancer –its success against Pete’s cancer was unknown.
James’ brother and sister are both doctors and work in the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which undertakes a huge amount of medical research. The family decided to set up a charity in conjunction with the Freeman Hospital Newcastle to specifically research the treatment of this rare cancer. Please visit www.petespancreasproject.co.uk for more details.
Family and friends have raised over £80,000 so far and we hope to continue raising money to prevent others suffering the way Pete bravely did. Please give generously in memory of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and feel free to come to the event and support me, hopefully I will be capable of a big celebration after!!!!!
Thank you for every penny and lots of love,
Claire
