Claire Hodgson sadly passed away unexpectedly on Sunday 25 August 2019 shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.  

Claire has been described by friends and colleagues as "the Marmite queen who has left a big gaping hole in our lives and the legal profession". She was a forthright person who supported many through her work as a solicitor, specialising in industrial injuries.  She was a  dedicated horse enthusiast who posted informative blogs and comments on social media, a supporter of feminist causes, a political commentator whilst to many a dear friend, a dedicated companion, a beloved daughter, sister and family member. 

Claire leaves behind Allison, her partner of 21 years.  Arrangements were being put in place for them to marry under special licence. Sadly, Claire's time to depart did not yield to bank holiday office closures and she unexpectedly passed away before the rubber stamp reached the marriage licence page.  

Whilst the marital admin arrangements proceeded slowly, Macmillan Cancer Support acted at a different pace, giving their time and guidance to try to support Allison.  They provided information to help her consider preparing for the eventual loss of her partner, all not realising it was to be just around the corner and only a couple of days away. Similarly, Claire gained comfort and an understanding of the chemotherapy that had been expected to follow. 

Claire's funeral will be held on Thursday 12 September at Durham Crematorium at 2.30 p.m.   In recognition of Claire's wish for no frills or floral tributes, this JustGiving Page aims to provide a means for a tribute to Claire with donations to Macmillan Cancer Support for those unable to come along to say farewell or, those who may have chosen a floral tribute in recognition of Claire for: -  loyal friendship, family love, legal professionalism, as a supportive colleague, a horse enthusiast or just a good pal who evolved from being a bus driver to a solicitor with an unyielding character!
