Story
In September I will move to Kigali, Rwanda, for twelve months in order to set up a Speech and Language Therapy Service at a hospital, in partnership with Voluntary Service Overseas. I will be one of only three Speech Therapists in the whole country!
VSO is the world’s leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. It believes that putting people at the heart of development is the only way to make a real difference in the world, and it sends hundreds of long term volunteers abroad each year.
Sustainability and long term change are core VSO values. A key part of my role will be sharing skils via training staff and supporting new graduate SLT’s, to ensure that the service I develop can continue to run after I leave.
It costs VSO approximately £15 000 to support each volunteer, and the organisation asks that volunteers fundraise a small amount in return. The money you give does not go to myself or my project directly, but to general VSO funds, to enable them to continue to carry out the great work they do.
Please give generously to this great cause, to enable VSO to continue 'sharing skills and changing lives'
