Story
In 2006 whilst travelling around Australia Faye noticed that a small mole on her left shin had increased in size. She had it checked out and removed for biopsy and after a further excision and a few weeks recovery was given the all clear and continued her travels.
In 2011 the mole started to appear again in the same area and after a couple more excisions it was confirmed as melanoma, which is a form of skin cancer that can spread to other organs in the body. She underwent surgery to remove an even wider area of her shin and was given a skin graft. After 3 monthly check ups for the next 5 years, in July 2017 she was finally discharged.
In May 2018, she found a small lump in her thigh. After numerous scans and tests she was told it was melanoma again which had spread from the original melanoma in her shin. Within 2 months she had the lump removed which had now increased considerably in size. The surgeon was happy that the melanoma had been removed and she would again require 3 monthly scans and check ups for the next 5 years. Unfortunately, only 2 months on from the operation she found further lumps in the same leg and after more scans and biopsy’s we were told that it had spread yet again and she is now battling cancer in her left leg, groin lymph nodes and her right lung.
Faye now has to endure months and months of immunotherapy treatment, side effects, hospital visits and scans for as long as this awful disease is in her body.
Unfortunately, on Monday the 19th of November, we were given another set back , the melanoma has also spread into Faye’s brain and there are too many lesions to operate on. However, she will continue with immunotherapy treatment to try and fight it.
We have amazing family and friends surrounding us but also the unbelievable work and support of the Macmillan nurses and staff. They are all truly magnificent and can’t do enough to help us through this tough and testing time.
So with all of this in mind I have decided I want to give something back and raise some money for this amazing charity.
