Story
I am taking part in Hertford College's Oxford to Venice, Bridge of Sighs to Bridge of Sighs bike ride, to raise money for student bursaries and support. Recent changes to the funding of tertiary education in the UK are having a real impact on the affordability of higher education, and talented young people are being put off from going to university by the prospect of the enormous debts they will incur. To celebrate the 100th birthday of Hertford College's "Bridge of Sighs", the college is putting a huge effort into fundraising for student support to ensure that the best and brightest can come to Oxford and benefit from some of the best teaching in the world, regardless of their financial situation. As a tutor at Hertford (and, it has to be admitted, a keen cyclist), I will be joining students, tutors, alumni, and friends of the college in an epic bike ride across Europe to support these aims. The things I do for my students!
