Fundraising for Love Musgrove
Story
Marathon's for Musgrove MRI is a fundraising event to raise money for Love Musgrove's MRI scanner appeal.
As part of the Cardiology team at Musgrove we work closely with the MRI team providing an important non-invasive diagnostic service for our Cardiology patients.
One of our Consultant Cardiologists, Dr Mark Dayer, had the original idea of organising a fundraising event to support Love Musgrove's MRI appeal and when a close friend and colleague's son became unwell in March this year the importance of the MRI scanner took a more personal turn. This drove the decision for us to hold this event on Sat 7th Oct in the hospital concourse.
Claire's story
My family and I were devastated to discover that my son, Braden, had a brain tumour in March this year. The MRI scanner was key in diagnosing Braden's brain tumour within hours of his referral into hospital. Following an emergency procedure to relieve the fluid build up and pressure around Braden's brain, a turbulent and traumatic few weeks followed until his Operation date for his resection.
We are so grateful and relieved to report his tumour has now been removed and was confirmed as a Grade 1 Pilocytic Astrocytoma which means it's unlikely to grow back.
He will have regular MRI scans moving forward to ensure he remains well and a due to the high demand on the current MRI service, the 3rd scanner will help us and many other patients and their families over a whole range of conditions.
As a keen competitive Indoor rower I will completing a marathon on my indoor rowing machine.
Please help us help Love Musgrove in raising funds for this essential piece of equipment. None of us will ever know just when we may need it.

The Event.
Throughout the day we will continuously add up the distances achieved, however big or small, by each individual participant on the indoor equipment. Alongside Claire and her marathon row we will add up the total distances to equate these to how many marathons have been achieved. We would love to be able to reach our target of £5000 and we therefore invite as many of you as possible to come and join us in raising as much as we can for MARATHON'S FOR MUSGROVE.
Your support and participation will be very much appreciated, there will be cake.....................................
